Wayne Walton Hughes was born on June 14, 1931 in Cainsville, Harrison County, Missouri. He married 1st on June 26, 1954 in Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri; they divorced December 1992. He married 2nd. on December 23, 1992.

Wayne served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, being assigned to Germany. Approximately during this time, he converted to Roman Catholicism. He met Rosella before leaving for Germany, in the soda shop in which she worked, by complimenting her on her "green" sweater (it was red). After his return from service and subsequent marriage, Wayne became an auditor at City National Bank in Kansas City, Missouri, and eventually became Assistant Comptroller. In August, 1966 he moved his family to Fort Wayne, Indiana to join Peoples Trust State Bank as Assistant Controller. On 16 June 1970, he moved his family to Pewaukee, Wisconsin so he could join Wauwatosa State Bank as Vice President and Controller. He later retired in that role, sometime after that bank merged with a larger holding company, and moved to Florida. He lived at several addresses in Florida, then moved to Atlanta Georgia in 1992.

Wayne died on June 11, 2005, just a few days shy of his 74th birthday and of Fathers' Day. As per his request, some of his ashes were scattered in the four corners of the Hughes Cemetery in Harrison County, Missouri. Some of his ashes were also buried at the Hughes Cemetery, and are marked by a memorial stone.

Wayne was the father of 9 children, all by his first wife.
