Josephine ("Josie") Hart was born May 21, 1901 in Harrison Township, Mercer County, Missouri. She married Roscoe Thomas. They adopted two children. "Aunt Josie" was the embodiment of "farm tough", while remaining a kind woman. The example that comes to mind is the incident that took place about 1980, when she and "Uncle Roscoe" decided to carry an old wringer washer up the stairs from their basement -- by themselves. At some point, the washer slipped, and Aunt Josie was struck in the head. This nearly killed her and put her into the hospital for a time, but nevertheless she made a nearly full recovery with only a small effect to her short-time memory. She lived at home with Roscoe for most of her remaining eleven years. Updated November 13, 2007
